The following are four techniques you can use to connect ideas in a paragraph, fostering coherence, flow, and readability of your manuscript:
• Link (Not repeat) the subjects of neighbouring sentences.
To accomplish the objectives of this study, optimisation algorithms are used. These algorithms (NOT Optimisation algorithms) have been found capable of enhancing the accuracy of X models.
• Link the beginning of one sentence to the end of the preceding one (if applicable).
The questionnaire was set to have 18 questions. The questions were structured so simple that average students could answer.
• Link sentences through relationships such as causality and contrast.
As all of the participants were from UAE where English is not the native language, the questionnaire needed to be translated into their native language, Arabic. Therefore, we hired an accredited translator with relevant field of study.
• If there is an order, use relevant phrases to create cohesion.
Do it in a consistent way: all in either active form (like the example below) or passive form.
The rest of the paper is structured as follows. First, Section 2 reviews the relevant literature. Then, Section 3 explains the method used in this study. Next, Section 4 discusses the findings. Finally, Section 5 concludes the whole study and recommends directions for future research.
The four techniques explained above are not the only ways you can make your text cohesive. But using them, you can be sure that you’re communicating clearly.
